SING FOR THE TREES (2022)

SHORT FILM, COMMISSION

CLIENT, UNTITLED NINE.

OFFICIAL SELECTION, INTERNATIONAL PORTRAIT FILM FESTIVAL 2023, BULGARIA

SING FOR THE TREES IS A FOREIGN-LANGUAGE FASHION FILM FOR HIGH STREETWEAR CLOTHING COMPANY UNTITLED NINE'S DEBUT COLLECTION OF PAINTED AND RECONSTRUCTED DENIM, WHICH WAS FEATURED IN BRITISH VOGUE’S OCTOBER 2022 ISSUE.

THE FILM SHOWCASES DESIGNERS BREEZE YUN AND TYLER BASA AS THEY BUILD A METAL TREE INSTALLATION TO SHOWCASE THE VIBRANT COLLECTION BETWEEN FOUR WHITE CONCRETE WALLS. ACCOMPANIED BY A KOREAN NARRATION PERFORMED BY YUN, THE SHORT FILM IS A SUBTLE EXPLORATION OF WHAT IT MEANS TO LIVE, CREATE, AND EXPRESS IN A NATURAL WORLD WHERE EVERYONE ELSE IS STRUGGLING TO GET THEIR OWN IDEAS ACROSS ALL AT ONCE.

"WHEN SOMEONE SHOUTS OUT LOUD TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES, IT OFTEN BECOMES JUST A NOISE."

THE FILM WAS WRITTEN, DIRECTED, PHOTOGRAPHED, AND EDITED BY 22-YEAR-OLD AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER RYAN HENRY KNIGHT. THIS IS THE FILMMAKER'S SIXTH DIRECTED FASHION FILM AFTER DIRECTING BAFTA FESTIVAL SELECTED, SILENCE IS BLACK AND WHITE, AT AGE 19.
